Comments about Nancy

I have known Nancy Lewis for a decade. Her quiet, gentle guidance and indomitable spirit shine through all of her efforts. She is a strong and capable leader who is able to direct difficult challenges while keeping a cool head. She has led multiple projects for the Academy, from the nutrition care process and the House of Delegates, to helping researchers and educators achieve their doctoral degrees. I highly recommend Nancy Lewis for her candidacy on the ballot.

I am so pleased to support Nancy Lewis for President-elect of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. As a non-traditional student, Nancy went out of her way to make it possible for me to receive my PhD from the University of Nebraska. She supported me throughout the process, and provided opportunities and connections with faculty at the university who were as enthusiastic about my research on leadership development of Registered Dietitians as Nancy and I were. Nancy is forward thinking about the profession, and has the capacity to advance us forward, respecting our past, and enhancing our future. Please cast your vote for Nancy for President-elect of the Academy!

I learned of Nancy's passion and vision for our profession when in graduate school at the University of Nebraska. Nancy recognizes and understands the climate and challenges we face in our profession. Equally important to seeing the bigger picture, is her creativity and leadership ability to recognize and take the steps required to make the changes needed. Nancy invited and mentored me to reach my full potential, a virtue she continues to display to other members and one that will help advance our profession. She is inclusive in her approach to leadership. I trust in Nancy's ability to lead our organization as President, and represent our profession to other stakeholders in a manner that will gain positive outcomes for our members and those we serve.

I met Nancy through my involvement in the Nebraska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Two things immediately jumped out at me when I met her. First was her passion for being a mentor, both to students and professionals. She recognizes that students are the future of our profession and has always encouraged them to reach out to RD's in practice for opportunities to learn. She has facilitated the ability for students to get involved in affiliate and district activities. Nancy has been one of my key mentors in my 18 years as an RD. It was because of her support and words of wisdom that I sought opportunities at the national level, getting involved in my DPG, the House of Delegates and public policy. Second was her desire to give back to the profession. Nancy has worked tirelessly to improve Academy member experiences through her service to the House of Delegates. She is always asking members for feedback as to what the Academy can do for them. Nancy is a selfless leader, and I believe she would represent the Academy well as President-elect!

As a trusted colleague, mentor and friend, Dr. Lewis has encouraged me in my career. She suggested I apply for the Academy Diversity Leader Award and this has provided important support during these early stages of my career. Dr. Lewis strongly supports diversity in our profession.
