Expanding our Reach
My vision for the Academy can be summed up in the words "Expanding our Reach." We are perfectly positioned to expand our reach in many different ways.
Consider our membership, we have 75,000+ members and I believe we can expand this number exponentially.
The demand for nutrition and health professionals will increase, and we need many more trained professionals to fill these positions.
We need to think creatively and "outside the box" to provide opportunities for students to complete their education and experience and become credentialed professionals.
Likewise we need to expand the opportunities for members to become advanced practitioners.
We need to look at the career ladder developed by the Council on Future Practice and expand the membership numbers at every level of this ladder.
We must expand our reach in the Public Policy arena.
Our members are integral to the success of currently developing community and healthcare systems.
The involvement of our members in communities, schools, healthcare facilities, and public health arenas can reduce healthcare costs and improve the health of the nation.
We have a vital role to play in disease prevention as well as treatment.
We have a major role to play both nationally and internationally to improve food systems and food security.
Our members are experts in understanding healthy food. We need to expand our reach and work collaboratively
as we become integral partners in addressing these needs at both the national and international levels.
We need to expand and develop our leadership pool.
We have excellent and effective member leaders at the local, state, and national levels.
We need to further develop our member leaders and begin this development at an earlier stage of career.
Our young members are the future of our profession. We need to provide opportunity for them to fully develop their leadership potential.
